William Linsky

Obituary of William Jaques Linsky

William Jaques "Bill" Linsky, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on March 9, 2024, at the age of 89, in Tampa, Florida. Born to the late Elizabeth "Betty" and William C. Linsky, Bill's legacy is one of love, commitment, and community service.

Bill grew up in LaGrange, Illinois, alongside his siblings, Jim and Ann. A proud graduate of the University of Colorado, he served his country in the US Army, stationed in Italy, before embarking on a distinguished career in banking. Bill moved to Winter Park, Florida, with his wife Betsy and their six-week-old son Mark, to be closer to his family. In 1971, a career opportunity led him to relocate his growing family to Brandon, Florida, where he would eventually establish the Bank of Riverview and several rural community banks. His vision was simple yet profound: to be "a big fish in a small pond" and serve the needs of local rural communities.

Upon retiring from the banking industry, Bill poured his passion into The Chair Cane Shop in Tampa, which he owned and operated. His dedication to craftsmanship and service continued to reflect his lifelong values.

In 1992, Bill married Carol, sharing not only a career in banking but also a deep commitment to their community and faith. Together, they were active members of the First Baptist Church of Tampa for over 20 years, where Carol sang in the choir and volunteered in the church office, and Bill assisted in managing the church's finances when serving on the finance committee. Carol stood by him as a devoted wife, especially through his courageous battle with cancer.

Bill's enduring legacy will be cherished by his family, including his sons, Mark L. Linsky and Thomas W. Linsky; daughters-in-law, Sharon and Kathryn "Miki" P. Linsky; stepchildren, Devin Mattox and Kathryn Heckenbach (and her husband, Jeffrey); grandchildren, Austin L. Linsky, Alexandra N. Linsky, and Mandelyn Linsky; and step-grandchild, Anna Heckenbach.

A celebration of Bill's extraordinary life will take place on March 23, with visitation starting at 10:00 am, and the memorial service to follow at 11:00 am, at First Baptist Church of Tampa, located at 302 W. Kennedy Blvd, Tampa, Florida 33606.

The family suggests contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Tampa in honor of Bill, whose spirit and dedication deeply enriched this community. Bill’s indelible impact, characterized by integrity, generosity, and love, will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
