Obituary of Maynard Frederick Lamphere, Jr.

On November 4, 2023, Maynard “Butch” Frederick Lamphere Jr., age 78, passed away quietly at home after a short battle with cancer. He was survived by his wife, Barbara, his daughter, Ana Baird, wife to Ronald Baird, grandsons Tracy and Dominik Baird, and sister Janice Lamphere Rosier, wife to Clarence Rosier. He was predeceased by his parents Maynard F. Lamphere Sr. and Martha E. Roberts Lamphere and his brother, David L. Lamphere,

The Lamphere family moved from Michigan to Tampa in 1953. Butch graduated from Chamberlain High School and joined the Air Force in which he served in Guam and Viet Nam.

Following his military service, he worked for Miller Machinery and Supply Company for 17 years. From there he worked for the University of South Florida for 27 years after which time he retired.

Butch and his wife, Barbara, were married for 43 years. During those years they were active breeding and showing horses with the American Quarter Horse Association, the International and American Buckskin Associations, and several other stock horse associations winning local, state and national awards and titles.

After retiring, Butch enjoyed spending time with his large entended family of nieces and nephews. Butch and Barbara enjoyed traveling around the country celebrating the “glamping” lifestyle and attending RV rallies. They particularly enjoyed taking their grandsons on special camping trips for fishing, swimming and biking. He filled his weekends with yard sales and loved working odd jobs for himself and others.

Butch was a dedicated and loving family man and enjoyed large family gatherings and spending quality time with his young grandsons. He will be sorely missed by his many friends and large family.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life to be held on Sunday, December 17 at 4:00 pm at the Grace Episcopal Church of New Tampa located at 15102 Amberly Drive. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to LifePath Hospice of Tampa.
