Juhl Dill

Obituary of Juhl Marjorie Dill

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Juhl Marjorie Dunfee Dill.

Juhl passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones June 19, 2021 at the age of 91 years young.

Juhl was born in Washington County, Ohio September 2, 1929 where she grew up loving life on her family's farm. She loved to regale us with such wonderful stories of her many adventures growing up in the simple, yet difficult times during the depression. Her most treasured times were walking through the woods for hours where she would explore nature and felt closest to God.

She married in 1947 and the following year had the first of her two sons, James (Jim) and her second, son Daniel (Dan) five years later completing their sweet family. The next decade saw the family move to Tampa, Florida where she made a permanent home for them.

Juhl had a passion for life, family, friends, church, community and especially the Lord. Throughout her life, although she never was able to achieve her desire of going to and completing college, she accomplished more than most could ever dream of. Her selfless attitude and loving nature was evident in everything she did, which was so much. She supported her husband while he went to college, worked a full time job, helped start and grow a church from nothing, helped establish youth groups, children's choirs, taught Sunday School all while raising her family.

During the mid seventies, she was diagnosed with Lupus. At this time, she found that there wasn't much information available, nor any support around. It was then that she achieved one of her most notable accomplishments. She founded the Tampa chapter of the Lupus Foundation. After working all day, she would stay up most nights typing up newsletters and making copies on a mimeograph machine in the front room of her home. In that same room she would sit, talk, counsel and comfort many people also afflicted with Lupus. It was her dedication to this cause that earned her many accolades and awards. In typical Juhl fashion, she felt all the recognition she received was unnecessary. “The Lord and I know what I've done and that's all that matters” she would say.

Having grown up on a farm during the depression, Juhl truly understood the importance of hard work. She would carry that unwavering work ethic through all the jobs she held. Whether it be working for the Mary Carter Paint Company in the accounts department to the 19 years she dedicated to the many patients, nurses and doctors she assisted at the James A. Haley Veteran's Hospital as a nursing assistant. She even helped train some of those young doctors who are now prominent physicians throughout Tampa Bay area. Upon retirement from the VA

she brought her patience, wisdom and compassion to University Community Hospital (now Advent) as a sitter where she would “watch” and keep company patients who couldn't be alone.

With everything she did throughout her life, what gave her the most joy was her relationship with the Lord, her family and sharing her love of Jesus Christ with them. “Grams” or “Grammy” as she was affectionately called by many was always available for anybody that needed her at any time. Her door was always open and you could be sure she would welcome you with love, understanding, and even a stern talking to if it was warranted!

Her sense of humor was like no other, her quick whit and spunky personality will be greatly missed. Even in her last days Juhl was making jokes and laughing with her family. She truly was a rare gem who is going to be mourned and missed by so many.

Juhl is predeceased by: her parents Hibbard and Lida Dunfee, siblings Leighton and Betty, and grandson Daniel Kevin Dill II. She is survived by her two sons, James “Jim” (Christine) Dill and Daniel “Dan” (Adrienne) Dill, nine grandchildren, Andrew “Drew” Dill, Christine (Tony) Merritt, Arden (Gordon) Turner, Lynn (Eric) Simmerman, Amy (Phillip) Carpenter, Darren Dill, Lauren (Collin) Latham, Caitlin Dill and Matthew Dill, 16 great-grandchildren David (Emma) Dill, Sarah Dill, K "Lee", Ally and John Merritt, Nathanael, Isaac and Caroline Turner, Caleb Kennedy, Madison, Westlee and Izzy Carpenter, Owen, Avery and Macey Simmerman, and Lucas Lefebvre, niece Alice Marie (Chuck) Kemper and nephew Don (Debbie) Ehman.
